Antique Cut Glass Cannister or Decanter with Lid # 27296
I am not sure exactly what this is. It could be a cannister, it could be a decanter, it could just be a jug. It is antique cut crystal (based on the color of the crystal) with a metal neck and a matching top or stopper. The four sides have an oval cut with a crosscut design at the top and a star cut on the base. The lid has a handle that I cannot tell if it is one piece of crystal or two pieces attached to each other. The lid fits the jar perfectly. As this is crystal-it could hold food or drink or just about anything else.
The cannister/jar/jug measures 3 7/8 across the bottom on each side. The top edge on the sides is 3.00 inches. It is 4.25 inches tall to the top of the sides, just over 5.00 inches tall to the top of the silver rim and 5 5/8 inches tall to the top of the handle.
The jar is clear but has yellowed which is most visible at the edges. The silver lid has no purity markings, so I am not sure what it’s made of. The only markings I could find are a set of four small dents as shown.
The jar has no chips, cracks, or other damage. The cut star on the base is shown.
